Does judging someone's desires actually make those desires disappear?

Or does it simply teach them to hide them better?

In this week's Spicy Spectrum Live, I close out my September conversations about cheating, secrecy, and relationships by exploring something I've seen repeatedly throughout my years in the adult industry: people revealing parts of themselves to strangers that they're afraid to reveal to the people they love.

I've spoken with men who have tried to tell their partners what they want and felt rejected. I've also spoken with men who never gave their partners the opportunity to respond because they had already convinced themselves they would be judged.

And I've been on the receiving end of that judgment myself.

During this conversation, I share what happened when a former partner made me feel ashamed of something I enjoyed and how that changed my willingness to be vulnerable with him. I also talk about clients who return to fantasies after trying to suppress them, couples who have found ways to communicate openly about outside adult experiences, and why I think compatibility matters more than trying to force someone to become somebody they're not.

But there's another side to this conversation.

I don't believe understanding someone requires agreeing with everything they want. Your partner is allowed to have boundaries. You're allowed to realize that something isn't compatible with your values. And sometimes understanding each other more clearly reveals that two people simply aren't compatible.

We also get into a question I didn't expect to explore:

Does being in a relationship mean your partner is entitled to know everything about you?

I don't think privacy and harmful secrecy are necessarily the same thing.

This conversation is about judgment, vulnerability, shame, privacy, honesty, compatibility, and what I've learned from occupying the unusual position of hearing things people sometimes struggle to say anywhere else.

This is Spicy Spectrum Live, where I invite people into honest conversations about relationships, sexuality, desire, masculinity, and the things we don't always say out loud.

Educational and entertainment purposes only. This conversation is based on my personal experiences and observations and is not medical or mental health advice.
